On June 13 and 14, 2007, SGI-Paraguay sponsored "Seeds of Change--the Earth Charter and Human Potential," an exhibition created by the SGI and the Earth Charter Initiative, at the Universidad Columbia del Paraguay (Columbia University of Paraguay). At the exhibition opening on the 14th, University President Rodrigo Urbieta told how he came to know about the SGI through the local SGI-Paraguay members, and how inspired he was by Nichiren Buddhism, which empowers individuals and enables them to manifest their inner potential. He also recounted his first meeting with SGI President Daisaku Ikeda in 2003 when he traveled to Japan to present Mr. Ikeda with an honorary doctorate in sociology.
"Seeds of Change" also showed at the Colegio Perpetuo Socorro, which offers elementary through high school education, in Luque, Central Province, on May 2. Following greetings by Principal Nidia Rodriguez de Cayoso and SGI-Paraguay General Director Kaoru Kurita, the students viewed A Quiet Revolution, a film about individual actions to protect and heal the environment sponsored by the SGI and produced by the Earth Council in collaboration with UN bodies.
On May 3, the exhibit was shown to elementary through high school students at Escuela Teniente Primero Juan Rigoberto Herrero, also located in Luque. In her greetings, Principal Carmen Venigama de Luis commented that the documentary offered insight into how we can protect the earth and lauded the local SGI-Paraguay members for their efforts in raising awareness for sustainable living.
