On September 29, the "21st Century Environment Exhibition," which supports the UN's "Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014)," opened at the Suitopia Konan in Konan, Aichi Prefecture. Kazunobu Onogawa, director of the UN Center for Regional Development, expressed his appreciation for the exhibition and shared his concerns about the current state of the world. He underscored the importance of an inner-directed reformation of each individual and a shift away from "quantity satisfaction" to "quality satisfaction" to grapple with the times. The exhibition aims to raise awareness and promote education about major global issues such as global warming, deforestation, the worsening gap between rich and poor. The exhibition also explores solutions to these intractable problems and encourages the strengthening of international cooperation for discovering those solutions.
