| Dr. Jan Øberg speaks on Earth Charter |
On June 10, Swedish peace scholar Jan Øberg, executive director of Transnational Foundation for Peace and Future Research, based in Lund, Sweden, spoke on the Earth Charter, at the University of Siena in Siena, Italy. SGI-Italy sponsored the lecture to promote the Earth Charter, in collaboration with four major universities located in Siena, Florence, Pisa, and Urbino, Central Italy. Dr. Øberg emphasized that peace is not the absence of war, but a state that respects the dignity of life in and cultural diversity in harmony with nature. He also stressed the importance of education that awakens in individual responsibility for being a protagonist of peace.
