Soka Gakkai Indonesia Hosts Youth Music Festival for Peace
SGI-Indonesia young men gymnasts create four-story human tower
On August 7, Soka Gakkai Indonesia (SGI-Indonesia) celebrated their nation's 60th Independence Day (Aug. 17) with the "Youth Concert for Peace: Hug the World with Music" at an exhibition hall of Jakarta Fair in Jakarta, Indonesia's capital. The show was a collaborative effort with the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI). Some 4,000 residents enjoyed the musical gala that included Indonesian artists, a Japanese hip-hop dance group, and dance troupes from Thailand, Korea and Vietnam. Colorful ethnic dances graced the stage, while the Indonesia University chorus sang traditional songs. The audience was enthralled by the powerful performance of SGI-Indonesia's brass band, dynamic gymnastic feats, the thundering cadence of the SGI-Korea students' drum dance, the soothing resonance of the Angklung--a bamboo musical instrument typical of West Java, and soulful jazz by world-renowned flutist Nestor Torres.

Among the guests were Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, First Lady Ani Bambang Yudhoyono, various ministry heads, and Idrus Marham, KNPI general chairman.
