Two Taiwanese Elementary Schools Commend SGI's Educational and Humanitarian Activities
SGI-Taiwan youth lead summer camp for elementary school students in areas affected by Haitang Typhoon
On July 18, Haitang (Taiwan) Typhoon, packing high-velocity winds of up to 184 kph and torrential rains, hit Taiwan. local SGI-Taiwan members, led by SGI-Taiwan Student Division members, were actively involved in relief and clean-up activities, especially at Mao-lin and Duo-na Elementary schools, in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan. School buildings were heavily damaged following the typhoon. SGI-Taiwan youth also held summer camps at both elementary schools, to encourage the students affected by the typhoon. They also donated books and stationery supplies to the schools. In recognition of the SGI Taiwan members' dedicated efforts in the local communities, the two elementary schools commended SGI President Daisaku Ikeda for his leadership of the SGI in educational and humanitarian activism.
