Min-On Sponsors Free School Concert for Students in Hokkaido
Renowned flutist Yoko Owada and pianist Kenji Koshizuka perform duets for Oasa Junior High School students in Ebetsu City, Hokkaido
On August 30, the Min-On Concert Association sponsored a free concert--a duet by renowned flutist Yoko Owada and pianist Kenji Koshizuka at the Oasa Junior High School in Ebetsu City, Hokkaido. The pair performed timeless classics such as Claude Achille Debussy's (1862-1918) "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" and Antonin Dvorak's (1841-1904) "Humoresky." The students remarked that it was refreshing to have the opportunity to listen to a live performance of famous classics. This concert brought the total number of Hokkaido students who have attended the Min-On's free concert series to 100,000.

The Min-On school concerts began in 1973 at a school in Shibetsu City, Hokkaido, at the proposal of Min-On founder Daisaku Ikeda. Since then, 236 concerts featuring first class international musicians, singers and performers have been held throughout Japan for students of 621 schools.
